Catching pokemon or "mapping" is a core gameplay loop of Aura. This is where the collectors and shiny hunters will spend most of their time.
Preparing your Pokemon Catching Supplies:
The wiki will be your starting point. Letting you know which pokemon are on each map, their rarity, and any special unlock requirements.
https://pokemonaura.com/wiki/map-encounters
Your preparations will vary depending on your goals. You may decide to gain some team ranks to unlock certain pokemon. Another strategy may be to leave your team rank low to focus your hunt with a smaller pool. Either way, you will need to do some training to earn coins for purchasing poke balls.
You can visit this guide for tips on training: https://pokemonaura.com/blog/pokemon-aura-guide-series-training
Coins in hand, let's head over to the shop:

Capture rates for Poke balls
Poke Ball - 25%
Great Ball - 32.5%
Ultra Ball - 37.5%
Master Ball - 100%
My personal recommendation would be to only Master Balls for shiny, legendary, other possible special pokemon, or just as an emergency option if you run out of other pokeballs while hunting.
Another essential tool for pokemon catching is the Lure. Lures can be used to force a specific pokemon type to spawn for 30 minutes. Lures work across all maps. You can freely switch maps to capture more of that type as long as the lure is active. A timer will show in the top left corner of your map.

Lures can not force a type to spawn if none are on the maps, or are unlocked by the user's team rank and mining levels
Lures can not force special quest mons to spawn(Mew for example)
Lures can not be purchased from shops. You can obtain them from other players, by crafting, or through the use of keys.

To use a lure navigate to the inventory button on the menu.

Type lure in the searchbar

Now click the use button, and select which type you want to have spawn.

Catching Pokemon in Aura
Now that you have all your supplies we can head over to the maps.

Once on the map you can navigate using the virtual joystick with your mouse, or with wasd/arrow keys on PC. On mobile you will use the virtual joystick. Just move around the map until a pokemon spawns. Then click battle to start a battle with the pokemon.

Defeat the pokemon in battle to bring up the catch buttons.

Click on the button to use a Poke Ball of your choosing to attempt to catch the pokemon. Alternatively, you can click restart battle to go back to the start of the map.

If you see this screen DO NOT leave the battle. You can throw as many Poke Balls as you need to, or as many as you own, to attempt to catch the pokemon.
Shiny Hunting in Aura
There are a couple ways to shiny hunt in Aura. One of those ways is by using the lures above, and hunting with a small pool of a specific pokemon type. The other way is with the use of an item called Shiny Roll Ticket. This ticket once attached to your lead Pokemon causes the first spawn on any map you choose to be shiny, and also works with active lures.
First thing you need to do is navigate to the party menu. You need to detach the item your lead pokemon is holding if it has one. Now open the dropdown menu, and select your shiny roll ticket.

Next we'll choose a map, and then walk until the first pokemon spawns. Be careful of moving too fast here. If you spawn another pokemon your shiny ticket will still be used up. All shinies will show up on the spawn as shiny.

Now you just battle and catch it like you would a normal pokemon.
