The Overworld update is here!
Hey everyone! We've been working on a pretty huge update, and there's a lot to get into. A full custom world to explore, a story that now continues all the way through Paldea, more legendary hunts, new outfits, and a whole bunch of new rewards to work toward.
Whether you're here to collect, finish the story, spend your mountain of Team Points, or just walk around looking cool, there's something new for you.
Welcome to the Overworld
The old Maps entrance now takes you straight into the Overworld. Look for Overworld in the sidebar, or head to /maps.
Instead of picking a location and staying on a separate encounter screen, you can walk through connected towns, forests, caves, mountains, shores and ruins. You'll meet NPCs, investigate things in the world, find Pokemon, visit shops and work through your quests along the way.
The world now has 24 maps. Some adventures take you somewhere new; others give familiar places a new reason to visit. Expedition entrances and animated teleporters unlock as you reach the right point in the story.
The toolbar up top helps you find destinations, while the Field board brings together route contracts, fishing goals, rod licenses and daily, weekly and monthly activities. Outbreak and roaming reports are available through Wild activity.
You can also visit shop buildings directly. The Grand Emporium opens the shop counters, and the Mining and Referral counters are available from their buildings too. Other game pages still exist when you want to use them directly.
A story from Kanto to Paldea
Kanto and Johto have been reworked for the Overworld, and the adventure now continues through Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar and Paldea.
Across the full campaign, there are 56 main story quests and 88 designated hunt, training and special-case quests. That's 144 quests in the campaign completion checklist, with new companions, enemies, investigations and reasons to explore.
A little taste of what's waiting, without giving away the endings:
Kanto: follow the mystery behind Aura's Starfall, uncover Eclipse's hidden circuit and meet the keepers protecting it.
Johto: investigate the Prism Bell through storms, a furnace rescue, strange rain and the legends tied to its signal.
Hoenn: head into the Stormglass expedition, where conflicting weather reports hide something much bigger than a bad forecast.
Sinnoh: investigate missing days, contradictory memories and records that should not exist.
Unova: follow a courier's deliveries into a conflict over truth, ideals and the people left out of the official story.
Kalos: visit an exhibition promising a perfect, endless summer. The garden has a different story to tell.
Alola: follow a lantern invitation, help a lost Cosmog and discover what happens when visitors from another sky cannot get home.
Galar: look behind the applause, question the stories told about its heroes and find out whose names were left off the crown.
Paldea: descend into The Open Crater, follow impossible footprints and bring the journey's mysteries together.
The new quests mix Singles and Doubles battles with physical clues, deliveries, escorts, repairs and approachable puzzles. There are different ways to investigate, and wrong answers give you help instead of wiping out your work. Your completed steps stay saved when you leave and come back.
To begin the next regional arc from Hoenn onward, finish the previous region's main story AND earn its complete Singles badge set OR its complete Doubles badge set. Either full format works; mixing half of each does not. For example, Hoenn needs the Johto story and a complete Johto badge set. Alola uses its four trial badges for the Galar transition.
Optional legendary captures do not block those new main-story transitions. They do count toward hunt and full-campaign rewards. Raid score and raid damage requirements have been removed from story quests and legendary hunts; optional Quest Board activities keep their own requirements.
Legendary hunts that happen in the world
Legendary hunts now have their own fieldwork and encounters. When you reach the reveal, the actual Pokemon appears on the map for you to approach. Most use animated overworld sprites; the Galarian birds use their matching static artwork.
The hunt lineup runs from the Kanto birds and Mewtwo through Johto's beasts, Ho-Oh and Lugia, then into the later regions:
Hoenn: Latias, Latios, the original Regis, Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza.
Sinnoh: the lake trio, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Heatran, Regigigas, Cresselia and an optional Enamorus chapter.
Unova: the Swords of Justice, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem.
Kalos: Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde.
Alola: the Tapus, Cosmog, Solgaleo, Lunala, Type: Null, Necrozma and ten Ultra Beast cases, including Poipole.
Galar: Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, Kubfu, Regieleki, Regidrago, Glastrier, Spectrier, Calyrex and the Galarian birds.
Paldea: Koraidon, Miraidon, the Treasures of Ruin, Ogerpon, the Loyal Three and Terapagos, plus six special Paradox cases.
Those Paradox cases feature Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Iron Boulder and Iron Crown. They are special investigations, not ordinary grass encounters.
Kubfu also has a training chapter that opens both Urshifu styles and a way to change between them with the same partner once the requirements are met.
Mythicals
Finishing regional stories unlocks their Mythical search trails. Pick an unlocked trail in the journal and explore its listed habitat. You can focus on one non-Mew trail at a time, and changing your focus is free.
Here are the chances per eligible encounter check:
1/3,000: Phione, Meltan
1/4,000: Celebi, Shaymin, Victini, Keldeo, Zarude
1/5,000: Jirachi, Manaphy, Meloetta, Diancie, Marshadow, Zeraora
1/6,000: Darkrai, Volcanion, Magearna, Pecharunt
1/7,000: Deoxys, Genesect, Hoopa
1/8,000: Melmetal
1/9,000: Arceus
1/10,000: Mew
Mew remains the rarest and keeps its separate story unlock and roll. It is not a selectable focus. These are chances while making eligible checks in the right habitat, not every second or every single step. Some trails use Surf; fishing, standing still and refreshing do not roll them. These odds are subject to change at any time.
More to find while exploring
Ordinary encounters have been expanded and redistributed across grass, cave floors, fishing and surfing. Initial encounters arrive sooner, and Pokemon are easier to see with larger encounter sprites.
Water pools have had particular attention. Surfing areas have at least six species, and fishing areas have at least three with an Old Rod, six with a Good Rod and eight with a Super Rod. Better rods include the lower tiers. Shared species between areas are intentional, alongside more distinctive local finds. Decorative or unreachable water is still scenery.
Ordinary wild pools use eligible lowest-stage Pokemon and species that do not evolve. Starters, evolved Pokemon, Legendaries, Mythicals, Ultra Beasts and Paradox Pokemon are kept out of those ordinary pools; special encounters have their own systems.
Outbreaks and roaming legends are integrated into the Overworld too, with reports showing where to look. Eligible roaming legendary checks are now 1/1,000 instead of 1/1,250, and you still need to have completed that Pokemon's hunt.
The wiki's Overworld Encounter Guide has also been updated. Search for a Pokemon or location and check its habitat, rod requirements and other encounter requirements. Regular Shiny Chests now draw from eligible Pokemon on the published maps, including fishing species, while keeping the chest's rarity weighting.
New trainers start with an actual first adventure
New players choose their team, choose their starter, then go straight into Aura Town.
Mira and Professor Oak guide the opening, with an escorted introduction before Oak takes you to Brookbank Trail. Near the grass, you're free to move around and catch your first Pokemon. You'll learn the basics, visit the shop and return for your rewards. More advanced lessons are optional, so you can get into the game without sitting through a tour of every system.
The original introduction rewards are still there, including Oak's Shiny Chest, where you pick one of three shiny Pokemon. Coins, catching supplies, keys, Tutor Tokens and the other original starter supplies have not been removed. Existing players keep their progress, and previously claimed rewards are not paid a second time.
The trainer boutique is public
You can now visit the Trainer Boutique and change the character you walk around as. Try outfits in the fitting room, preview their walking animation and directions, and equip your unlocked looks from the wardrobe.
Free starter appearances are available from Trainer Level 1. The original coin collection includes:
Trail Explorer: 125,000 coins, Trainer Level 3.
Forest Ranger: 150,000 coins, Trainer Level 4.
River Angler: 150,000 coins, Trainer Level 4.
Winter Wanderer: 175,000 coins, Trainer Level 5.
Field Researcher: 200,000 coins, Trainer Level 6.
Harbor Captain: 225,000 coins, Trainer Level 8.
Crimson Ace: 250,000 coins, Trainer Level 10.
Moonlit Mystic: 300,000 coins, Trainer Level 12.
Check the live catalog for availability and any additional requirements. Purchased outfits are permanent cosmetics, and other trainers can see your equipped appearance in the world.
See someone you want to say hi to? Click their sprite or nameplate to open their trainer card, send a small wave, or use View Full Profile. Chat also has its own toolbar button.
Galaxy, Golden and Shadow
We're updating the variant names:
Golden is now Golden.
Shadow is now Shadow.
Galaxy keeps its name.
Names attach directly to the Pokemon: GoldenRattata, ShadowCaterpie, GalaxyPatrat. You'll see the new wording in shops, stories, the wiki and the rest of the game. Your existing variants remain yours; this rename does not change their stats or artwork.
A lot more variant artwork is now available too, giving us room for a much bigger reward catalog. That does not mean every species has all three variants yet.
How the new conversion rewards work
Most of the new variant prizes below are saved conversions. You bring your own matching ordinary Pokemon at its lowest evolution, then use the conversion to turn that same partner into the listed variant.
For example, a GalaxyPatrat conversion upgrades your own ordinary Patrat. It keeps its nickname, level, moves and training. You do not receive a second Patrat, and you cannot overwrite a shiny or another variant.
Claim or buy a conversion now and redeem it later in Rewards. Saved conversions do not expire, and there is no extra redemption fee. A choice reward means pick ONE of its options. Regigigas and the Aurora Ultra Beast conversions also require the matching completed hunt.
Regional story rewards
Complete each region's main story and claim one of these conversions, along with its regional title:
Kanto: GalaxyOddish OR GalaxyParas — Starfall Witness
Johto: GalaxyHoppip OR GalaxySunkern — Keeper of the Bells
Hoenn: GalaxyLotad OR GalaxySurskit — Stormkeeper
Sinnoh: GalaxyBidoof OR GalaxyBurmy — Echo Warden
Unova: GalaxySewaddle OR GalaxyDucklett — Unbroken Promise
Kalos: GalaxyScatterbug OR GalaxySkrelp — Prism Guardian
Alola: GalaxyGrubbin OR GalaxyCutiefly — Island Wayfinder
Galar: GalaxySkwovet OR GalaxyBlipbug — Crown Sentinel
Paldea: GalaxyCapsakid OR GalaxyFidough — Beyond the Horizon
Complete a region's designated hunts to earn its Huntkeeper title too. Your captures and normal quest payouts still apply.
The big campaign goals
Complete all nine main stories: choose GalaxyNincada, GalaxyShuppet OR GalaxySnorunt, plus Worldstory Champion.
Complete all nine stories AND all designated hunts/training cases: GalaxySpiritomb, plus Guardian of the Overworld.
Complete that full campaign AND the National caught Pokedex checklist: GalaxyRegigigas, plus Living Legend.
For these rewards, the full campaign means the 144 designated story/hunt/training quests. Recurring daily, weekly and monthly board tasks are not part of that checklist. Remember to claim your completed quest rewards; simply winning the final fight may leave a quest waiting for its final claim.
Pokedex completion rewards
Each regional caught checklist now has a conversion alongside coins, Shiny-roll Tickets and Shiny Chests:
Kanto: GalaxyVenonat + 100,000 coins + 2 tickets + 1 chest.
Johto: GalaxyLedyba + 125,000 coins + 2 tickets + 1 chest.
Hoenn: GalaxyWhismur + 150,000 coins + 3 tickets + 1 chest.
Sinnoh: GalaxyKricketot + 150,000 coins + 3 tickets + 1 chest.
Unova: GalaxyPidove + 175,000 coins + 4 tickets + 2 chests.
Kalos: GalaxyBinacle + 175,000 coins + 4 tickets + 2 chests.
Alola: GalaxyYungoos + 200,000 coins + 4 tickets + 2 chests.
Galar: GalaxyNickit + 200,000 coins + 5 tickets + 3 chests.
Paldea: GalaxyNymble + 225,000 coins + 6 tickets + 3 chests.
National: GalaxyAxew + 500,000 coins + 8 tickets + 4 chests, plus National Researcher.
These use registered caught species, not just seen entries. Alternate forms are not extra requirements, and registered catches stay counted after trading or evolving. Use the live Pokedex checklist to see exactly what you need.
Already completed a collection? Your existing completion counts toward the new conversion. Previously awarded currency, tickets and chests count toward the listed totals, so those bundles are not paid in full twice. Other existing completion extras remain, and Eco Dome has its own separate, unchanged archive prizes.
More reasons to do your favorite activities
Master 50 species: GalaxyRotom.
Master 200 species: choose GoldenNidoran F OR ShadowRattata.
Master 10 routes: GalaxySentret.
Complete both rod licenses: GalaxyStaryu.
Complete 25 outbreaks: GoldenCaterpie.
Complete 50 weekly boards: ShadowWeedle.
These are once-per-account conversions in addition to the activities' existing rewards. An outbreak completion here means ten target catches on a board. Weekly boards count completed weekly boards, not individual tasks within one week.
New Pokemon shop cards
The coin and Team shops now have Pokemon tabs, and Mining's Pokemon tab includes its new conversions alongside the existing Pokemon rewards. Every conversion has its own card, sprite, cost and requirements.
Pokemart / coin shop
1,000,000 coins each:
GalaxyPatrat, GalaxyWooper, GoldenRattata, ShadowCaterpie.
2,500,000 coins each:
GalaxyShinx, GalaxySpinarak, GoldenSpearow, ShadowPidgey.
5,000,000 coins each:
GalaxyRalts, GoldenEkans.
You can buy two of these conversions total per calendar month.
Team shop
1,000,000 TP each, Corporal rank:
GalaxyCarvanha, GalaxyNumel, GalaxyKoffing, GalaxyMagnemite, GalaxyDarumaka, GalaxyScraggy.
2,000,000 TP each, Lieutenant rank:
GalaxySpheal, GalaxyRolycoly, GalaxyStunky, GalaxyElgyem, GalaxySalandit, GalaxyTrubbish.
Every team can buy all twelve choices. Their team themes do not make them exclusive. You can buy one new team conversion total per calendar month; changing teams does not reset it. Spending TP does not reduce your career rank history.
Mining shop
5,000 Dust + 10 Iron Bars each:
GalaxyGeodude, GalaxyRoggenrola, GoldenSandshrew.
15,000 Dust + 10 Crystal Gems + 10 Gold Bars each:
GalaxySableye, GalaxyCarbink, GalaxyDrilbur.
40,000 Dust + 30 Crystal Gems + 30 Gold Bars each:
GoldenAerodactyl, ShadowAerodactyl.
You can buy two new mining conversions total per calendar month, with at most one of those being an Aerodactyl option.
These new shop limits reset on the first of the month at 00:00 UTC. Coin, Team and Mining allowances are separate. Existing shop stock keeps its own rules.
Aurora exchange has a weekly Galaxy rotation
The featured Galaxy conversion now rotates every Monday at 00:00 UTC through:
GalaxyCelesteela → GalaxyXurkitree → GalaxyKartana → GalaxyGuzzlord → repeat.
The page shows the current feature, upcoming weeks, time until rotation and the actual reward odds. A conversion you've already earned stays the same when the feature changes.
Each eligible Level 1000+ donation gets ONE 10% chance at the featured conversion. That's one roll per donation, not per giftbag, and ten donations do not guarantee a win. You need your matching ordinary Ultra Beast and its completed hunt to redeem the conversion.
The regular donation tiers are:
Level 250–499: one giftbag.
Level 500–749: two giftbags.
Level 750–999: three giftbags.
Level 1000+: three giftbags and the featured 10% roll.
A shiny donor adds one extra giftbag, but no extra featured roll.
Donating permanently gives up that Pokemon. The existing limit of ten donations per calendar month remains, and Aurora Exchange requires Trainer Level 10.
Each giftbag awards a new Level 5 shiny Pokemon, an item result AND coins. These shinies are actual Pokemon grants, not conversions.
The expanded shiny pool has 20 species:
7.5% each: ShinyChinchou, ShinySnover, ShinyDwebble, ShinyMinccino, ShinyFomantis, ShinySnom, ShinyWattrel, ShinySmoliv.
3.75% each: ShinyCottonee, ShinySolosis, ShinyFrillish, ShinyBergmite, ShinyMorelull, ShinyClobbopus, ShinyTogedemaru, ShinyDedenne.
2.5% each: ShinyWimpod, ShinyFinizen, ShinyMawile, ShinyZangoose.
The separate item roll is 10 Pokeballs (25%), a Type Lure Pack (20%), a Tutor Token (20%), a Silver Key (15%), a Shiny-roll Ticket (10%), a Shiny Chest (7%) or a Bottle Cap (3%).
The coin roll gives 10,000 coins (60%), 20,000 coins (30%) or 40,000 coins (10%). You can check all of this in Giftbag odds before donating.
Clearer guidance on what's next in the world
The Field journal now points you toward the next available quest, separates story and hunt entries, and tells you when a reward needs claiming. Future chapters stay locked instead of showing objectives you cannot do yet. Completed chapters have their own archive.
Trainer Level also makes the next unlock easier to understand. Exploration, catching, the story and basic shops start at Level 1. Battle Tower opens at 3, Breeding at 4, Gauntlet at 5, Expeditions at 6, Raids at 7, Team Aura Takeover at 8, Aurora Exchange at 10, Auctions at 12 and PvP at 15. Other activity requirements still apply. Locked features show their required level, and existing runs or pending rewards remain recoverable..
Where should i start?
Head into Overworld and open your Field journal for the next story lead. Visit Rewards to see your completion milestones and saved conversions, check the Pokemon tabs in the shops, and try on an outfit at the Boutique.
If you're returning, your existing progress and completed quests still count. You don't need to start over to take part.
Thank you to everyone who tested, reported bugs and helped shape this update. There's a lot more to explore now. Pick a trail, bring your favorite partner, and we'll see you out there! Please report any and all bugs you may encounter in the game.
